If you have formed an LLC or corporation in Maine, you may receive official-looking letters requesting payment for certificates, labor law posters, annual report filing services, or other business documents.
Some of these mailings are advertisements or solicitations from private companies, not official notices from the Maine Secretary of State. Not every third-party service is fraudulent, but an official-looking letter does not necessarily mean a payment is required.
Before paying or sharing business information, verify who sent the notice and whether the service is required. If you are uncertain, contact our office at (207) 588-7206 or molly@mchanleylaw.com.
You may also verify official business filing information directly with the Maine Secretary of State, Bureau of Corporations.
For more frequent announcements and client reminders, visit our business Facebook page. Important notices will also remain available here on our website.
